Korean Ginseng / Koryo Insam (Heaven Grade)
Korean ginseng (Panax ginseng) is a perennial plant traditionally cultivated on the Korean peninsula. It has a long history of cultivation and traditional use.
Korean ginseng is commonly available in two processed forms: white ginseng and red ginseng. Red ginseng is traditionally prepared by steaming ginseng roots and then drying them.
Traditional Red Ginseng Grading
Korean red ginseng is commonly classified into four commercial grades:
-
Heaven Grade: Premium-grade roots selected for their appearance, shape, color, and minimal surface imperfections.
-
Earth Grade: High-quality roots that may have minor surface imperfections.
-
Good Grade: Roots that may exhibit variations in shape, color, or surface appearance.
-
Cut Grade: Cut or otherwise processed roots that do not meet the appearance standards of higher whole-root grades.
Heaven-grade Korean red ginseng is selected according to traditional grading criteria, including root shape, surface condition, and color.
Korean red ginseng roots are traditionally prepared through a steaming and drying process.
Cautions: Do not eat Korean ginseng with Wulingzhi, Veratrum (American hellebore) or radish. Consult an herbalist if you mix red ginseng with other stimulating herbs or medicines
